Hari Om Sharan was a legendary Hindu devotional singer and lyricist. Most of his bhajans were dedicated to Bhagwan Ram and Hanuman. The devotional albums - Premanjali Pushpanjai, and Data Ek Ram placed him among the leading bhajan vocalists in the 1970. 'Tera Ram ji Karenge Bedaa Paar', 'Maili Chadar Odhke Kaise', 'Aarti Kunj Bihari ki', 'Aisa Pyar Bahaa De Maiyya', 'Shree Radhey Govinda', 'Hanuman Chalisa' and 'Govind Jai Jai Gopal Jai Jai' are his most popular bhajans. In a singing career spanning over 35 years, he released over 20 Bhajan albums. His bhajans are sung across Northern India.
Hari Om Sharan was born in Lahore, British India on September 26, 1932. After India partition in 1947, his family moved to India. He became a professional singer in 1973. His first album was recorded by HMV, leading Music Company of India during that time. During a trip to Guyana, he met Nandini and both got married later. When other singers belonging to his era strived hard to get opportunities in Bollywood, Hari focused on devotional songs only. He was a simple person living a simple life and his life style well reflected in his songs too. He and his wife were easily approachable and were mobbed by followers at public concerts and temples.
In the era of 1970s, those days were rare which never telecasted at least one bhajan of Hari in AIR Vividh Bharathi, in his morning program from 6:00 am to 6.30 am. He has been inspired by unheard compositions of Kabir, Kamal and Raidas during the beginning phase of his career. He appeared briefly in an English film, Holy Smoke! as a singer. He also attempted to enter the world of ghazals, though was not successful.
